The Argus Implant is a tracking and data monitoring augmentation that is mentioned in the early story concept of Deus Ex: Icarus Rising, a prototype for Deus Ex: The Fall. While serving as a key plot device in the story concept, the Argus Implant was cut from the story during the course of the game's development. It is not mentioned in the released game.

Story concept[]

In Panama City, Ben Saxon learns from Camila and Alvaro (Alvarez Araujo in the released game) that there is some sort of "shadow aug" in his brain. Later, he discovers that the device was created by Isaac Tiven, a Zaaphire Biotech scientist. Therefore, Saxon heads to Zaaphire's facility in Australia to confront him.

At Zaaphire's facility, Saxon meets Tiven, who describes the device as follows: "A brilliant piece of work. Top of the line espionage. It monitors your location and transmits it at regular intervals. Not just that, but sights, sounds smells. It's like having your own guardian angel, over your shoulder. Always watching." Tiven also explains that the implant is used by the Tyrants to keep a close watch on their own members, prompting Saxon to realize that the Tyrants know where he is.

Later, in New York City, Tiven agrees to remove the implant from Saxon after realizing that Zaaphire Biotech was a puppet company set up by VersaLife, and not a legitimate competitor to the later as he had originally believed.

Trivia[]

  • The Argus Implant is a reference to the Argus creature of Greek Mythology, which is depicted as having a hundred eyes in his head or all over his body.
