Augmentation canisters are items in Deus Ex used to install new augmentations. Augmentation canisters can only be used when a medical bot is present.

Use[]
An augmentation canister provides the option of installing one of two augmentation options provided by the canister. Augmentations are installed through the interface that appears when interacting with a medical bot.
There are 9 unique augmentation canisters. Two canisters (the canister for Microfibral Muscle / Combat Strength and the canister for Synthetic Heart / Power Recirculator) appear only once throughout the game. Other canisters appear two or three times.
Once an augmentation has been installed, augmentation upgrade canisters are then used to level up the installed augmentation.
Each augmentation canister is usable on an empty slot of a corresponding body area (arms, legs, subdermal, torso, or eyes). The subdermal and torso body areas have more than one slot, allowing for the player to install multiple augmentations from different canisters or multiple augmentations from different copies of the same canister into those body areas. If all slots of a particular body area have been filled, any additional canister for that body area will have no further use and can be safely discarded.
