Ballistic Protection is a subdermal augmentation in Deus Ex. It is a nanotechnological augmentation that provides resistance against damage from bullets and bladed weapons.
This augmentation is installed from the augmentation canister that also includes EMP Shield. Since there are two subdermal slots and more than one copy of this canister, it is possible to acquire both Ballistic Protection and EMP Shield by using a second copy of the canister.
Description[]
Monomolecular plates reinforce the skin's epithelial membrane, reducing the damage an agent receives from projectiles and bladed weapons.
- TECH ONE: Damage from projectiles and bladed weapons is reduced slightly.
- TECH TWO: Damage from projectiles and bladed weapons is reduced moderately.
- TECH THREE: Damage from projectiles and bladed weapons is reduced significantly.
- TECH FOUR: An agent is nearly invulnerable to damage from projectiles and bladed weapons.
Effects[]
Ballistic Protection is an active augmentation that consumes 60 units of bioelectric energy per minute.
When activated, this augmentation provides resistance to the following damage types:[1]
- Shot – Damage caused by bullets and lethal melee weapons.
- AutoShot – Damage caused by the gunfire of automated turrets.
The amount of resistance depends on the tier level, as listed below.
Tier | Resistance |
---|---|
Tech 1 | 20% |
Tech 2 | 35% |
Tech 3 | 50% |
Tech 4 | 65% |
The function of this augmentation overlaps with that of ballistic armor, which provides resistance against the above damage types (as well as additional damage types). When multiple sources of the same resistance are active, they are applied as sequential percentage reductions to the incoming damage.
Canister locations[]
- Lebedev's 747 (3rd Mission) – In the cargo hold of the aircraft, inside a locked container (code: 9905)
- Morgan Everett's Home (10th Mission) – In Everett's lab, inside a locked container (code: 2384)
Notes[]
- Despite the use of the term "projectile" in the in-game description, this augmentation is unrelated to projectiles fired by non-hitscan weapons (which is the common meaning of the term "projectile" in this wiki and in the game files). As described above, the only effect of this augmentation is to provide resistance against "Shot" and "AutoShot" damage. These damage types are primarily caused by hitscan (instant-hit) weapons rather than projectile weapons.
