Barrels are common game environment objects in Deus Ex. Specifically, "barrel" is the item name for the barrel1 class of objects.

Types[]

The barrel1 class includes 11 different types of barrels. 6 types have special properties, some of which may pose a hazard to the player. All barrels have a mass of 80, which means that tech 1 Microfibral Muscle is required to lift barrels (but is not required to push them).

The different types of barrels are listed below, ordered by their texture number. Internally, barrel types are defined by the SkinColor attribute (e.g., SkinColor = SC_Explosive, for the explosive barrel).

7 Flammable Solid

8 Explodes for 200 base damage with a radius of 768 units (48 feet) when destroyed. Emits smoke when damaged or leaking.
8 Poison
(SC_Poison)
12 Emits poison gas when damaged or leaking.
9 Radioactive
(SC_RadioActive)
Invulnerable to damage. Causes radiation damage (5 base damage per second) to targets within a radius of 128 units (6 feet). Emits an ambient light.

Barrels that explode inflict damage of the "Exploded" damage type.

Burning barrels[]

Burning barrels belong to a separate class of objects, BarrelFire.

Notes[]

  • If a barrel is summoned by console commands ("summon barrel1"), the barrel will have the default SkinColor of SC_Rusty.
  • To summon a barrel of another type, the command "set barrel1 SkinColor [skin color]" can be used to set the SkinColor of the next barrel that is summoned.
