A blade is a melee weapon with a large cutting portion and a grip, designed primarily for cutting or thrusting. A blade may be made from steel, ceramics, nano-technology or plasma-electric charge.
Models[]
Combat nano-ceramic blade[]
- Gameplay articles: Takedown, Cybernetic Arm Prosthesis, Nanoblade
The combat nano-ceramic blade is a retractable blade used by Sarif Industries security chief Adam Jensen and Juggernaut Collective agent Ben Saxon. Jensen has one on the topside of each of his Cybernetic Arm Prostheses, while Saxon has one on the underside of his sole Cybernetic Arm Prosthetic. Jensen's nano-blades are later upgraded to be fired like projectiles, and even explode if charged, before having a new set automatically created and reloaded via nanite ammo packs.
Dao[]
- Main article: Sword
The dao is a Chinese broad-bladed sword used by the Triads in melee and as their traditional weapons in Hong Kong in 2052. In China, the dao is known as one of the four major weapons, referred to as "The General of All Weapons".
Non-eutactic blade[]
- Main article: Dragon's Tooth sword (DX)
The non-eutactic blade (NEB) is a nanotechnologically constructed blade that is dynamically forged on command into a non-eutactic solid. Nanoscale whetting devices ensure that the blade is both unbreakable and lethally extremely sharp. It was developed around 2052 in VersaLife's Hong Kong laboratories with the original prototype being used to start a war between two prominent Triads, the Luminous Path and the Red Arrow. After 2052, with the destruction of VersaLife, Majestic 12, and the Area 51, the secret of its manufacture was lost and the non-eutactic blade was replaced by the energy blade by 2072.
Energy blade[]
- Main article: Energy blade
The energy blade is the most produced blade in 2072, replacing the more powerful non-eutactic blade lost after the Collapse. It is a well-balanced curved sword with a fine blade, a black hilt and handle, enhanced by plasma-electric charge to increase the damage of a strike. The energy blade has its own internal power source, and does not need ammo or power cells.
For the unique energy blade found in Deus Ex: Invisible War, see: Dragon Tooth Sword (DX2).
