Cassian Valente is a character mentioned in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. She is a resident of Prague, where she has an apartment in Čistá Čtvrť.
Biography[]
Valente wrote an AI program called "Christ1ne," which she described as an advanced home automation system with the potential ability to spy on homeowners. Valente took part in an online test hosted by a corporation named i4, which was impressed by the problems that Valente could solve with Christ1ne. i4 informed Valente to join the company, informing her that she would be a perfect fit to work on a project called NYX-3, whose concept stage, Phantasus, is complete and ready to evolve to the next one.[1]

The game files of the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided includes the following note relating to Cassian's story: "Someone from a mysterious Ai dev company contact Cassian to propose her a job. There is talk about a Morpheus project. Cassian refuses, she's done with top secret shit."[2] This note appears to describe a prerelease concept in which she would be involved with Morpheus, an AI associated with the Illuminati member Morgan Everett. In the released game, however, the company interested in recruiting her is working on Phantasus instead. In Greek Mythology, Phantasus is the brother of Morpheus and is another personified god associated with dreams.
In a cut pocket secretary message, Cassian arranges to meet with Meredith Yang, a member of the TF29 Cyber Crime unit. The message to Yang states, "i dont share my house ai secrets with just anyone."[3] This cut pocket secretary message may be related to the prerelease plot element in which Cassian refuses to work for the "mysterious" company that is interested in recruiting her.
Trivia[]
- A full-body character model that matches Valente's in-game portrait appears in concept art, where the design is referred to as a "secondary character." This full-body character model does not appear in the game.
- In a game design presentation, level designer Clémence Maurer referred to Valente as a "neural implant turned house AI developer." She also states that Valente is unhappy about her current situation and is "secretly developing some AI that is a direct reference to other AI that we find in the Deus Ex universe."[4]
