The Desert Jewel Resort Hotel is a partially completed luxury hotel located in Dubai. The Hotel is the site for the first mission of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
Background
The hotel was still under construction by augmented workers when the Aug Incident struck in late 2027, causing the workers to go into a frenzy. Following this event, the hotel was abandoned and homeless people took shelter in it as a result.
In Deus Ex Universe: The Dawning Darkness, the prelude to Mankind Divided, undercover Interpol agent Arun Singh selects the hotel as the site for a black-market arms deal between the Jinn and Sheppard. Singh tells the Jinn that they can clear out the squatters to prepare for the arms deal. Singh then informs Task Force 29 to intercept the arms deal.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
In the opening cinematic of Mankind Divided, the Jinn are seen killing the homeless who have taken shelter in the hotel, in preparation for the arms deal.
A short time later, Adam Jensen and the Central European Division of Task Force 29 arrives in Dubai to capture Sheppard. Jensen is tasked with entering the hotel from the roof, to seal off Jinn members from reaching the atrium, where the arms deal is to take place. Jensen completes his objective, and makes his way to the atrium but Shadow Operatives arrive and ambush the arms deal. Simultaneously, a sandstorm engulfs the hotel, complicating the situation further.
Trivia
- The room of the hotel just prior to the atrium (containing broken column segments suspended from the ceiling) is referred to in concept art as the "Cyber-Renaissance Room."[1] This room is also a featured environment in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - VR Experience.
