The 11th Mission in Deus Ex takes place primarily at Vandenberg Air Force Base, the headquarters of the resistance group X-51. The mission also features an Abandoned Gas Station in Central California.
In this mission, JC Denton arrives at Vandenberg at the instructions of Morgan Everett, who has developed a cure for the Gray Death but needs the Universal Constructor being developed by X-51 to manufacture the cure. Everett also seeks to uplink Daedalus to the U.S. military network accessible at Vandenberg. Upon arrival, JC Denton finds that Majestic 12 has captured a large portion of the base.

Walkthrough[]
Command center[]
At the start of the mission, X-51 scientist Carla Brown gives you your initial objectives. The primary goal is to destroy the 4 MJ12 robots (2 Delta-3 military bots and 2 Bravo-2 security bots) patrolling the front of he compound to the east. The optional secondary goal is to activate backup power for the X-51 scientists' bot security system.
As one approach, you may start destroying the MJ12 bots right away. If you have a GEP gun, you can fire locked rockets from the rooftop. If you destroy the four robots, the secondary goal will be marked as complete, but you can still override the backup power terminals for associated the skill points, if desired.
Another approach is not to destroy the bots right away, but to complete the secondary goal and unleash X-51's own bots against the MJ12 bots. To do this, you'll need to override the two backup power terminals (which are labeled on the map given by Carla Brown) using the code 5868. One terminal is outside of the command center to its SW. The other terminal is inside the command center on the first floor. Two general routes are outlined below:
- Exterior-first route – From the roof of the command center, head down south and find the cooling-water pool, which is illuminated by red light. Jump into the cooling-water pool to avoid fall damage. Head west to the SW corner of the map to find the first terminal, which you can override with the given code (5868). Then, head north and enter the command center through a locked door on the west side of the command center. Once inside, find the second terminal, which is accessed through a door at the north end of the hallway north of the reception area. Use the same code for the second terminal.
- Interior-first route – On the roof of the command center, enter the door and continue until you come across an elevator. Take the elevator to the first floor and find the door to the terminal at the north end of the hallway (alternatively, you may proceed down the vertical piping space that is lit by a red light). Once you've overriden the terminal inside the building, head out of the command center to find the exterior terminal at the SW corner of the map.
After completing the secondary goal, you will still need to enter the security bay to release X-51's robots. The north side of the command center provides a relatively safe approach to the security bay. Once inside, press the two buttons to release the friendly military bots. Since the friendly bots are outnumbered, they may need your help.
Once the four MJ12 bots have been destroyed, the next objective is to enter the communications building. At the back of the building, there is a locker that contains an augmentation upgrade canister. Nearby, there is a small room with a hatch to the underground tunnel. You will need to enter the tunnel to retrieve the NanoKey needed to access the control room, where Gary Savage is believed to be located.
The Vandenberg area has a number of optional interactions and skill point bonuses. See the "Skill Points" section above for details. You can earn the skill point bonuses anytime before leaving Vandenberg on Jock's helicopter.
Tunnels[]
This map segment is mostly one long tunnel passage that needs to be travelled from one end to another. Continuing through the passage, you'll eventually come to the entrance to hazard area 1. This door will lock if you activate the blue laser grid (in this case, return to the panel in an earlier part of the tunnel, which has a reset button to unlock the door).
Just inside the entrance to hazard area 1, straight ahead is the radiation room, to the left is the a locked door (marked by the sign "maintenance access"), and to the right is a vent opening near the floor. The ultimate goal is to pass through the radiation room. However, the maintenance access door (90% lock strength, infinite door strength) provides a ceiling route gives a 150 SP bonus and avoids radiation damage. The vent opening leads to a submerged area where the NanoKey for the maintenance access door, as well as an augmentation upgrade canister, can be found.
While one option is to simply pass through the radiation room (taking the damage along the way), the vent opening route offers additional rewards, as described below:
- Proceed through the vent opening and down to the water-filled generator room. The NanoKey for the maintenance access door is found on the submerged walkway.
- To obtain the upgrade canister, find a corridor on the south side that leads to a set of submerged stairs (you would have arrived here if you took the "generator room" door earlier). Swim to the bottom of the stairwell and bypass the locked door. The upgrade canister is on the dead body just behind the door.
- To leave the submerged area, head to the top of the stairwell and push the button to access the main hallway.
- With the maintenance access NanoKey, open the maintenance access door to access the ceiling pipes of the radiation room.
Pass through the radiation room to reach the storage room. Note that there's a 150 SP bonus for reaching the SE storage shelf on the second level. To progress further, you'll need to get to to the west side of the upper level of the storage room. One way to get there is to use the elevator control and set the elevator to level 3, which provides a path to cross the storage room. Continue forward and pick up the control room NanoKey from the dead body. Climb up the ladder to make to reach the command center.
Back in the command center, head to level 2 to find the entrance to the control room. Use the NanoKey obtained from the tunnels to open the control room. Along the way, Icarus will send an ominous warning: "I am ready. Attack my systems and you will suffer considerable losses."
Control Room[]
Dr. Savage and his crew are downstairs. Sam Carter will also be here, having been dismissed from UNATCO. Dr. Savage agrees to help manufacture Everett's cure, once his daughter Tiffany has retrieved the schematics for a containment vessel needed to complete the Universal Constructor. Dr. Savage will open the way to the main terminal, which needs to be brought up in order to operate the UC. The main terminal will also provide access to the U.S. military network (MilNet), which Daedalus needs to survive against Icarus. The main terminal is in the electrified room next to Carter.
The safest way to the MilNet computer is to walk along the right-side wall and bypass the electric panel at the back. Take the lift to the second floor, where you can bypass the second electric panel as well, if desired. Log in to the computer (GSavage/Tiffany), and enable the uplink to MilNet. At this point, you are hit with two plot events. First, contrary to what Everett expected, Daedalus and Icarus have merge to form a new AI, Helios. Then, when you return to Dr. Savage, you will learn from Bob Page that he has captured Tiffany. The next goal is to rescue Tiffany.
Finish up any remaining tasks at Vandenberg, and head to the helicopter at the front of the base.
Abandoned Gas Station[]
At the road beside the gas station, you can find two people who were forced out of the gas station by the MJ12 soldiers. Sandra Renton will also be here if she left New York. Fred will offer you the sewer door key and will also sell various hardware. The sewer access is located near your insertion point. Unlock the door on the left, and climb up.
Tiffany is located in the garage (the second building). There are two guards within that building: an MiB and a regular MJ12 trooper. If they are alerted, they will activate the alarm and attempt to kill Tiffany. One approach is to use the hillside incline to the left of the store (the first building) to get to its rear side. Then climb the ladder to access a rooftop opening of the garage.
Rescuing Tiffany isn't required, but if you are successful, you will receive an augmentation upgrade canister in the next mission. Tiffany will also give you a map for the next mission. After rescuing Tiffany (or failing to do so), Jock will land at the south junkyard to fly you to your next destination, the MJ12 Sub Base used to access thePasadena Ocean Lab.
