The 7th mission in Deus Ex features the third and final visit to Hell's Kitchen. After learning that Majestic 12 had shipped a large supply of the Gray Death virus to New York via a freighter previously owned by Stanton Dowd, JC Denton returns to New York to find Dowd, who might have information on the whereabouts of the freighter.

Walkthrough[]
Upon arriving on the roof of the 'Ton Hotel, you learn from Tracer Tong that Harley Filben, the street informant encountered in the previous missions, is an aide to Stanton Dowd.
The streets of Hell's Kitchen are filled with hostile troops who will fire on sight. The news bulletin reveals that Manhattan is currently under martial law and has been placed under the authority of FEMA. Moreover, JC Denton is wanted for the murders of Juan Lebedev, Joseph Manderley, and Anna Navarre. Even if you did not kill Lebedev or Manderley, you will still be blamed for their deaths in the news bulletin.
Meet with Harley Filben[]
Speak to Harley Filben in the Underworld Tavern. Harley reveals that he's been working for the NSF, as well as the Illuminati. Filben will tell you to meet Dowd at the location where Osgood & Son's storefront used to be.
Filben will also reveal that the reporter Joe Greene is actually a spy working for UNATCO. Thus, you will also be given the secondary goal of assassinating Greene, who is found in the free clinic. If you complete this task and report back to Filben, he will tell JC, "Man, you really did change sides. Never would've thought it possible."
Other interactions in the tavern include the following:
- Vinny, a marine, will tell you that FEMA has recently taken over the Brooklyn Naval Shipyards' submarine base. Vinny is suspicious of FEMA's takeover, which forced him off duty. If you tell Vinny that you might investigate, he will tell you how to get into the base and you will also receive a bonus of 100 SP.
- Jordan Shea, the bartender, will tell you that prices have tripled due to martial law, and that a "German mech" from UNATCO came by looking for you.
- Sandra Renton can also be found in the Tavern if she is alive and had decided to stay with her father.
During this mission, if you speak to either Joe Greene or Jordan Shea and mention that you're looking for Stanton Dowd, you will then be shadowed by a shady thug. If this thug comes within 8 feet of Dowd, you will be attacked by a large force of MJ12 Troopers immediately after speaking with Dowd.[1]
Meet with Stanton Dowd[]
Head to the ruins of Osgood & Son's storefront to meet Stanton Dowd. Dowd will say that the freighter should be located at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyards' submarine base, the only facility large enough to house the freighter. Dowd will tell you to scuttle the freighter, and recommend that you visit Smuggler for explosives.
- If you have a GEP gun or at least one LAM in your inventory, Dowd will suggest visiting Smuggler for more explosives. However, doing so is optional, as you may directly head to the roof of the 'Ton Hotel to leave for the shipyards. Hostile MJ12 troopers will spawn and converge on your location after speaking with Dowd.
- If you do have neither a GEP gun nor a LAM, you must visit Smuggler before you can leave the area. In this case, the MJ12 troopers will not spawn until you've obtained the explosives from Smuggler.
The conversation with Dowd will also trigger the secondary goal of bringing Stanton Dowd some Ambrosia. This can be done in the next mission (even though this objective is not carried into the next mission). If you interact with Dowd after the conversation, Dowd will reveal more about the Illuminati, the once-powerful group to which Dowd belongs.
Visit Smuggler and leave for the Shipyards[]
Even if you are not required visit Smuggler, doing so will grant you extra skill points. You will receive 20 SP for entering Smuggler's living quarters in his lair. To complete the secondary goal of obtaining explosives from Smuggler, you may either purchase 4 rockets (2500 credits) or 6 LAMs (2400 credits). However, if you purchase the rockets, you will receive a bonus of 50 SP.
If you were required to visit Smuggler (i.e., you did not have a GEP gun or a LAM when you spoke with Dowd), but you do not have the 2400 credits, you must still speak with Smuggler before you can finish the mission. Until you have spoken to Smuggler, Jock's helicopter will not appear on top of the 'Ton Hotel for you to leave for the shipyards. Smuggler will tell you that you will have to improvise by raiding the armory at the shipyards.
During the conversation with Smuggler, you have the option of advising him to leave Hell's Kitchen before UNATCO raids the area. If you do not tell him to leave, sometime during the next mission, Jock will inform you that Smuggler failed to get out in time.
Once you are ready to leave Hell's Kitchen, head to the roof of the 'Ton Hotel to leave for the shipyards.
Bugs[]
- The game script suggests that Ford Schick was intended to make an appearance in this mission and provide the player with an augmentation upgrade canister if he was previously rescued during the 2nd mission.[2] However, due to what appears to be a bug or oversight that results in the FordSchickRescued flag expiring prior to this mission, he does not appear in this mission.
- Ford's appearance and dialogue can be restored by manually adding the FordSchickRescued. For instructions on using the debug menu to set this flag, please see the "bugs" section of the article for the 4th mission. If the FordSchickRescued flag is restored, he will spawn on the upper level of Smuggler's hideout when you enter the map.
- Ford's dialogue can also be restored by simply summoning him using the "summon FordSchick" console command at any location during this mission (cheats must be enabled for this command to work).
- Even if Ford's dialogue is restored, the augmentation upgrade canister that he was supposed to give cannot be obtained because the game script incorrectly refers to AugmentationUpgrade instead of the correct class name AugmentationUpgradeCannister.
