EMP Shield

EMP Shield is a subdermal augmentation in Deus Ex. It is a nanotechnological augmentation that provides resistance against EMP damage.

This augmentation is installed from the augmentation canister that also includes Ballistic Protection. Since there are two subdermal slots and more than one copy of this canister, it is possible to acquire both Ballistic Protection and EMP Shield by using a second copy of the canister.

Description[]

Nanoscale generators partially protect individual nanites and reduce bioelectrical drain by canceling incoming pulses.

  • TECH ONE: Damage from EMP attacks is reduced slightly.
  • TECH TWO: Damage from EMP attacks is reduced moderately.
  • TECH THREE: Damage from EMP attacks is reduced significantly.
  • TECH FOUR: An agent is nearly invulnerable to damage from EMP attacks.

Effects[]

EMP Shield is an active augmentation that consumes 10 units of bioelectric energy per minute.

When activated, this augmentation provides resistance to the EMP damage type[1] in the amounts listed below. EMP damage is a special type of damage that only drains the player's bioenergy, without affecting the player's health. Sources of EMP damage include electrical hazards, Spider Bots (both large and small variants), and EMP grenades thrown by the player.

Tier Resistance
Tech 1 25%
Tech 2 50%
Tech 3 75%
Tech 4 100% (full immunity)

EMP Shield does not provide any resistance against shock damage, which is a separate damage type that is often concurrently inflicted alongside EMP damage. For example, electrical hazards and Spider Bots inflict both EMP damage and shock damage simultaneously. In such circumstances, EMP shield will only mitigate/eliminate the EMP portion of the incoming damage. Resistance to shock damage is instead provided by the Energy Shield augmentation.

Notes[]

  • Among all augmentations and items that provide resistances to damage types, EMP Shield is the only one that is limited to a single damage type. Given that EMP damage does not affect health and is relatively uncommon, this augmentation is generally regarded as being extremely niche.
