Deus Ex Wiki
Energy Shield

Energy Shield is a torso augmentation in Deus Ex. It is a nanotechnological augmentation that decreases damage from energy-related attacks.

This augmentation is installed from the augmentation canister that also includes Regeneration. Since there are three torso slots and more than one copy of this canister, it is possible to acquire both Energy Shield and Regeneration by using a second copy of the canister. However, the second copy of the canister does not appear until the final mission of the game.

Polyanilene capacitors below the skin absorb heat and electricity, reducing the damage received from flame, electrical, and plasma attacks.

  • TECH ONE: Damage from energy attacks is reduced slightly.
  • TECH TWO: Damage from energy attacks is reduced moderately.
  • TECH THREE: Damage from energy attacks is reduced significantly.
  • TECH FOUR: An agent is nearly invulnerable to damage from energy attacks.

Energy Shield an active augmentation that consumes bioelectric energy at 40 units/minute.

When activated, this augmentation provides resistance to the following damage types:[1]

  • Exploded – Damage caused by explosive projectiles (other than plasma bolts) and exploding objects. Explosion damage is covered by this augmentation even though it is not explicitly mentioned by the in-game description.
  • Flamed – Damage caused by the Flamethrower and WP Rockets of the GEP Gun.
  • Burned – Damage caused by plasma bolts fired by the Plasma Rifle and PS20. Burn damage is also caused by the damage-over-time burning effect that occurs upon receiving flame damage.
  • Shocked – Damage caused by electrical hazards and Spider Bots (both large and small).

The amount of resistance depends on the tier level, as listed below.

Tier Resistance
Tech 1 20%
Tech 2 40%
Tech 3 60%
Tech 4 80%

The function of this augmentation partially overlaps with that of ballistic armor, which also provides resistance against "exploded" damage. When two sources of resistance are active, they are applied as sequential percentage reductions to the incoming damage.

This augmentation does not provide any protection against EMP damage, which is instead provided by the EMP Shield augmentation.
