Animals are generally neutral or hostile creatures that exist in the world of Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War. These creatures are usually either used for hostile enemies or world-building elements.

Animals include transgenic creatures, which are produced through genetic engineering, as well as ordinary animals such as cats and dogs. The following transgenic creatures appear in multiple games:

Greasels, karkians, and grays appear in Deus Ex: Invisible War.
Non-transgenics passive animals include pigeons, cats, rats, and penguins. Passive animals are useful for the Health Leech Drone Biomod, which can use the animals to give health to the player.
Invisible War mentions that cats are used as meals for pet greasels:

If you must use a dead cat, warm it up in the microwave first, then wiggle it around for the feeding. Never feed your greasel table food. It encourages bad habits. Make sure your pet has fresh water everyday." |

Penguins can be found later in the game in Antarctica. Penguins in the game resemble king penguins.
