France, also called the French Republic is a country located on the European continent.
Background[]
France has been a setting in the first Deus Ex game, namely Paris and the Chateau DuClare. Also, various characters originate from the country. From the 17th to the early 20th century, France oversaw a world empire and remained a global power in the 21st century.
Events in the Deus Ex series[]
In 2027, delegates from France were invited to Hugh Darrow's speech at Panchaea.
Prior to 2052, a resistance movement called Silhouette developed in the country. This group was influenced by the Situationist International, campaigning against an increasingly authoritarian French government and aiding similar groups such as the National Secessionist Forces (NSF) in the United States.
In 2052, due to rioting by the populace, Paris came under martial law. The units used to quell the disorder were a combined force of the Préfecture de Police and international soldiers of Majestic 12. This event was used by Majestic 12 to attempt to find and terminate Morgan Everett and Lucius DeBeers at the Illuminati headquarters in Paris.

France, along with the United Kingdom have long been considered as bases of operations for the Illuminati, with Illuminati headquarters located in Paris as of 2052. Also, prominent members such as the DuClare Illuminati bloodline originate from France.
