Invisible War Revised is an unofficial mod for Deus Ex, a re-imaging of Deus Ex Invisible war. Being incomplete, the current version contains two missions, New Orleans and Seattle.
Overview[]
Twenty years after the events of Deus Ex, the world has been healing. The Gray Death is gone and Majestic 12 has been vanquished. However, a new form of augmentation has been discovered, Bioaugmentation, and is spreading wildly through illegal prostitution rings and from the protagonist, Alex Denton. With the help of the NSF and the remnants of UNATCO, will Alex discover the origin of his bioaugmentations, and will he stop the growing conspiracies forming around him?
Plot[]
The game begins with Alex Denton working at a restaurant in the historic district of New Orleans, Louisiana. His day-to-day job involves delivering "coffee" to his boss, Louie Maxwell, and the Chef. While picking up payment for a take-out order, Alex meets Lelia Nasiff, the head of the Gnosis Academy. Alex also runs into his old girlfriend, Billie Adams. For his final job with Louie Maxwell, Alex is to bring his belongings to a helicopter on top of the local hotel, but sniper-fire from the local Hippodrome takes out the two men atop, barely missing Alex. Louie and Chef escape quickly in the helicopter. Lelia contacts Billie to her condo via an infolink, which Alex also hears and follows. Lelia reveals that Alex has bioaugmentations, and his spreading them to other people via sexual intercourse. Alex gave it to Billie, Billie gave it to her friend Leo Jankowski, and Leo gave it to his girlfriend, Klara Sparks. Lelia briefs the four that they will be taken to the Gnosis Academy, a place for all the Bioaugmented people to live. Alex, wanting to find out why his boss tried to kill him, joins forces with the NSF in their raid on the UNATCO-occupied Hippodrome. Here he finds Donna Morgan, a UNATCO chief, who discloses that cameras were set in place around the city in order to spy on the Maxwells. Meanwhile, an earthquake off the coasts occurs, sending a large tsunami towards the city. Alex, Donna, and Lelia's students all escape the flooded city, and head for Seattle.
Alex and the students wake up in their Gnosis dorms, however Klara seems to be missing. Alex heads towards the Seattle Air Terminal, where Donna Morgan has taken Klara. She explains that Lelia sedated the other students while she faked her sleeping. She broke her window in her dorm, and escaped via a helicopter. Alex, now taking orders from Donna, heads to Club Vox in order to investigate the Minister of Culture. He plays along with the Minister's games, and earned a spot in his Emerald Suites apartment. Once heading there, Alex is captured by the doorkeeper, Heinman Rosh, who takes him to a mansion in the outskirts of Seattle. Here, Alex meets Richie Dutroux, a 'distant relative,' as he calls himself, who invites Alex to join their group, or leave and forget this ever happened. For the initiation test, Alex is told to bring the body of a child to the kitchen table. Instead, Alex disposes of Richie and his group, and calls a taxicab to bring him and the kid to Lower Seattle.
This is where the mod ends currently.
Background[]
Invisible War Revised offers a surprising amount of lore and questions that need answers.
UNATCO & NSF[]
These two factions still exist, despite UNATCO's parent organization, Majestic 12, being destroyed. UNATCO believes that Walton Simons single-handedly infiltrated and took down Versalife and Bob Page. The NSF, however, are still the underdogs. They are more like minutemen, showing up to UNATCO meetups to either escalate, or de-escalate the situation.
Alex Denton[]
Alex Denton was most likely born from the cloning chamber at Area 51, as he has no memory before his arrival at Las Vegas, Nevada. This implies that the Illuminati Ending took place, since Area 51 wasn't destroyed, and Alex wasn't taken from the cloning chamber before. Alex also has no birth certificate, SSN, or family, as he thinks JC and Paul Denton are dead. There, he met Louie Maxwell, who took him under his wing as a professional 'delivery boy.'
The Maxwells & Dutroux[]
The Maxwells are a mysterious family. Louie picked up Alex possibly due to his bioaugmentation, and somehow spreading the bioaugs through a prostitution ring. UNATCO was investigating Louie in New Orleans before a tsunami destroyed the city. Did the Maxwells cause the flood in order to coverup their bioaugmenations?
The Dutroux group is even more mysterious. Running a secret satanic group in their Seattle mansion, they call themselves 'blood-relatives' of Alex. Did they get their blood-connection from the Maxwell ring, or are they actually connected to the Dentons? And what is their connection to the Minister of Culture? We can't get many answers from them since Alex disposed of them.
Lelia Nasiff[]
Lelia was thought by Alex to be a savior to him, offering to take him from his mundane life as a 'delivery boy' into an Academy where he can finally relax. That was until Klara Sparks reveled that Gnosis was hiding something, sedating the three students during the helicopter ride. Just what are Lelia's intentions for the four students, and what is she trying to hide?
Development[]
The mod was originally developed by conspiracy theorist Michael Cravey (1986 – 2014), also known by his YouTube username Thomas Brinkley, or his Mod DB username Neveov.
On March 3, 2014, Cravey stabbed a professor at the parking lot of Leigh Hall in the University of Florida, for no apparent reason. A witness who called the police described him as laughing at the act. Cravey escaped on his Jeep and the police gave chase; the professor ultimately survived the attack. Hours later, a police officer found Cravey at the parking lot of Butler Plaza, drew his firearm, and commanded him to lie down. Cravey instead produced a hatchet and charged. The officer reacted by shooting Cravey fatally.[1] [2]
After Cravey's death, this mod was considered lost until 2021, when it was found in an old hard drive by fellow modder 'DXPC'. Members of the DXArchive community fixed various problems to make the mod playable.
