An unlocked keypad
A keypad is an electronic lock in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Keypads typically serve as locks on doors. A keypad that unlocks a control panel with additional functions is also known as a terminal.
Gameplay[]
Keypads and terminals can be unlocked by one of three methods:
- Hacking – If the player has level of Hacking Capture that at least matches the security level of the lock, the keypad or terminal can be unlocked by successfully completing the hacking minigame.
- Entering the correct code – Passcodes, also known as "keycodes" or simply "codes," can often be found in the game environment, such as on pocket secretaries, or may given to the player during the course of the game. If the passcode has been found, it will be displayed on the interface. Passcodes are fixed for a certain keypad or terminal; thus, it is not necessary to find passcodes in-game in order to use it if the passcode is already known to the player. For a list of known passcodes, see Keycodes (DXMD).
- Using a multi-tool – A multi-tool can be used to unlock any keypad, at the cost of permanently expending it.
If a hacking attempt is unsuccessful, the keypad or terminal will go into "lockdown" mode, during which it cannot be used until the lockdown expires. Shooting the keypad or terminal with an EMP round will cause it to reboot. If the keypad or terminal is connected to an alarm, failing a hacking attempt will trigger the alarm (thus voiding the Foxiest of the Hound achievement). Entering the code incorrectly at the last attempt will also cause the keypad or terminal to go into lockdown. However, incorrect code entries will not cause an alarm to be triggered.
Keypads typically serve as locks on doors. Once a keypad has been unlocked, the corresponding door becomes unlocked, and the keypad no longer has any functionality.
Terminals are unlocked to provide a control panel with a menu of further options, such as opening or closing a safe. Most terminals control safes and laser grids. Terminals that control special objects, such as a movable platform, are also occasionally encountered.
