The 762-TS Lance, which has an item name of Lancer Rifle, is a specialized variant of the Model 762 Battle Rifle and a weapon in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Characteristics[]

The Lancer is a bolt-action variant specialized for long-range sniping.

  • As a bolt-action rifle, the Lancer has a very low rate of fire and is limited to 3 rounds per magazine.
  • The Lancer has extremely high per-hit damage. The Lancer has the highest nominal damage rating of any any firearm in the game when a silencer is not attached. However, actual damage per shot is lower than an AP-loaded Longsword II 203 ERSR sniper rifle.[1]
  • Only armor piercing battle rifle rounds can be used. Standard battle rifle rounds cannot be used on this weapon.
  • The Lancer comes with with an integral (non-detachable) scope.
  • The Lancer is compatible with the silencer. This and the combat rifle are the only lethal weapons that can use both a scope and a silencer.
  • The Lancer has a maximum range of 300 meters, the longest of any gun in the game.[2]
  • A Lancer may be traded for one of Nada Birak's special stocks.

While the Lancer is based on the standard battle rifle, it functions very differently as a specialized sniping weapon. Compared to the standard battle rifle, the Lancer does not have a semi-automatic firing mode, and is also limited to bolt-action firing with a 3-round magazine. As such, it is best used as a long-range weapon.

The Lancer is even more specialized for sniping than standard sniper weapons such as the TRQ 203-C tranquilizer rifle or the Longsword II 203 ERSR sniper rifle. Both the tranquilizer rifle and the Longsword sniper rifle can accept a laser sight, which makes these weapons suitable for hip firing in addition to sniping. However, the Lancer cannot be modified with a laser sight and, unlike the Longsword sniper rifle, is also highly inaccurate when hip firing.

The Lancer deals less damage than a Longsword sniper rifle loaded with AP ammo, despite having a higher nominal damage rating than the latter. For example, a fully upgraded Longsword sniper rifle can destroy a turret in a single shot at 20 meters using AP ammo, whereas the Lancer is not capable of doing so.[1] However, the Lancer surpasses all other firearms in damage per hit.

The Lancer has one important advantage over the Longsword sniper rifle, which is that it can accept a silencer. This enables the Lancer to be used stealthily at all ranges. Attaching a silencer reduces the Lancer's nominal damage rating by 40. However, the silencer's actual effect has been observed to be an approximately 55% reduction in damage, both at base damage and with full damage upgrades.[1] While the silencer reduces damage significantly, this reduction is of fairly little consequence if the weapon's damage is fully-upgraded, as its armor-piercing rounds are sufficient to kill any enemy personnel in a single head shot even when silenced, except for EXO-suits and enemies with an active Titan shield.

Adam will only chamber a new round when you zoom out, further reducing the Lancer's rate of fire. Additionally, dry reloading the lancer is almost as slow and arduous as the Longsword sniper rifle. The delay with the dry reload can be avoided by manually reloading after taking two shots.

Acquisition[]

Six instances of the Lancer appear in the game.

  • The first Lancer available in the game is hidden in the Throat area of Golem City. There is a controllable platform with a control panel. Ride the platform up one level by pushing the "up" button. Then, cross the beam to the opposite (west) side, follow the platforms to the far left edge of the area, and then follow another beam back to the east side to reach an alcove with weapons case containing the Lancer.
  • Another can be found in RVAC Row in Golem City, at the NE corner of level 5 of the in-game map, inside a weapons briefcase in a room with bunkbeds.
  • Purchasable from Mikael Mendel after from Golem City (for a total of two instances during the second and third visits to Prague, respectively).
  • Found in apartment 95 of the Dvali Apartments after returning from Golem City. The Lancer is on top of the cabinets above the stove.
  • Possibly found in a storage unit (passcode 7326) with double doors, after returning to Prague from the GARM facility, depending on whether you completed the secondary objectives in M1: Black Market Buy. If the secondary objectives were completed in that mission, the Lancer will be located at the east end of the pedestrian bridge (behind the Police Station).

Trivia[]

  • All variants have "Steiner-Bisley Longsword Whisperhead SERSR, 202ERSR•SN514•MTL" written on a plate on the back of their upper receiver. This appears to be a development oversight.
  • Jensen uses the "Overhand C Clamp" grip when using all variants of the battle rifle. This stance is used to increase control of a weapon and decrease muzzle rise, likely to help compensate for the larger recoil of the 7.62x51 ammo. However, this would be useless on the Lancer, due to its bolt action.
