Magnet is the mechanically augmented leader of the Motor City Bangers in 2029. He is an antagonist in Deus Ex: Black Light.

Biography[]

After the Aug Incident, the Motor City Bangers expanded their territory and held a sizable part of downtown Detroit. In order to become a "tenant" on MCB territory, Francis Pritchard made a deal with Magnet, in which Magnet would permit Pritchard to reside at the Rialto Theater, in exchange for Pritchard making augmentations untraceable by the police. According to Pritchard, Magnet's gang provides a "violent order" for downtown Detroit.

In early 2029, Adam Jensen, Pritchard, and Stacks discover that the MCBs have been looting military grade augmentations from the Sarif Manufacturing Plant at Milwaukee Junction. When Jensen and Stacks arrive at the plant to stop the looting, they find Magnet in the midst of coordinating the looting. Jensen suspects that Magnet is working for someone else, given that trafficking of military grade augmentations would be beyond the ambitions of a street gang.

After Stacks destroys the plant by detonating an explosion, Jensen spots Magnet and chases him down. However, a Task Force 29 VTOL suddenly arrives. Taking advantage of this distraction, Magnet escapes from Jensen. Magnet and the MCBs leave the area with a sizable amount of augmentations looted before the plant was destroyed.

Later, Magnet is revealed to be working for Jenna Thorne, an Illuminati agent tasked with extracting the Sarif-made augmentations for operations in Europe. Magnet's objective is to hand the augmentations off to the arms dealer Sheppard, who is to airlift the augmentations out of Detroit by a cargo jet. Magnet assures Thorne that the MCBs are up to the task.

Magnet and his men take position at the Detroit airport, along with a shipment container of the looted augmentations. Sheppard's cargo jet arrives and his crew load the shipment container into the jet. A Task Force 29 unit led by Christian Jarreau arrives at the scene and promptly begins cutting down Magnet's men. Meanwhile, Sheppard's cargo jet is on the runway getting ready to take off. Jensen, who had accompanied the TF29 unit as an observer, attempts to reach the jet on a jeep. Magnet grips onto the jeep's hood using electromagnetic pads on his palm. However, Jensen impales Magnet with his arm blade. Jensen hits the breaks, which causes Magnet to be thrown onto the center of runway. Magnet is subsequently crushed under the wheels of the cargo jet as the jet moves to take off.

After Magnet's demise, Pritchard speculates that downtown Detroit will be less stable due to the weakening of the MCBs.

Augmentations[]

Magnet uses a gold-plated cybernetic arm with electromagnetic pads on the palm. This feature, a black-market modification, permits Magnet to grip onto metal objects and is the basis for his nickname, "Magnet."
