Mary Morevic, also known as angelfire, is a character mentioned in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided who is involved in the backstories of multiple other background characters and game environments. She is the ex-wife of Olivier Berthelot, Adam Jensen's neighbor at Zeleň Apartments #32.

Biography[]

Morevic was once affiliated with the Dvali and is speculated to have been a former spec ops operative. An augmented person, Morevic later joined Talos Rucker's ARC movement and maintained a living unit in Golem City, where she served among ARC's security personnel.[1] Her involvement with ARC made her more estranged from her ex-husband, and their daughter, Kristelle.[2]

Kristelle wanted to leave Prague, along with her partner Tom, but was unable to secure the necessary permits to do so. Kristelle then met Bruno, a Dvali trafficker who claimed that he could get her out of the city. When Olivier informed Morevic of Kristelle's plans, Morevic, who knew of Bruno, realized that Kristelle was in danger.[2] Morevic then fled Golem City and found an apartment near the Dvali Theatre where she could mount a rescue of Kristelle. By this time, both Morevic and Olivier had lost contact with Kristelle, and Olivier was facing eviction from his apartment.[3][1]

Morevic fired on the Dvali truck that she believed was carrying Kristelle,[4] killing two Dvali members and allowing five civilians to escape.[5] One of the girls held by the Dvali was killed in the attack.[6] Another member of the original group of six also died, possibly after the escape.[7][8] Among those who did manage to escape was Paulina Machieraldo, who fled into the Překážka sewers along with others while being hunted by the Dvali and by police drones.

Notes[]

  • Whether Kristelle escaped or was the girl killed in the attack is not explicitly stated. However, given that Olivier appears distraught by the time that Paulina's group has already arrived in the sewers, which are close to Olivier's apartment, it is suggested that Kristelle's story does not have a happy ending.
  • Her apartment near the Dvali Theatre contains a photo of a girl, who may be Kristelle, and a photo of a couple, who may be Olivier and Morevic when they were younger. The same photos are seen in Olivier's apartment. Morevic's apartment also includes a pocket secretary with her notes on Dvali activity.
  • If Paulina is spoken to, she tells Jensen that "someone, an angel I think, started shooting at the truck."[6] This description appears to be a reference to Morevic's email name, "angelfire."
