Memory Disk is a story item in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The item is acquired in a room inside tourism center during the side mission SM06: 01011000. The room is accessible only during this side mission.
Description[]
An outdated piece of data storage technology that someone named Helle was desperate for me to retrieve.
Background[]
Floppy disks are an old technology, first available in the 1970s, but experienced a revival in 2022. According to a draft article by "Top 10 Tech" on top technology revival in recent times, floppy disks have the advantage of secrecy due to the rarity of working drive readers.[1]
Use[]
Acquiring the item is a required mission objective for the side mission SM06: 01011000.
During the mission, Helle seeks Adam Jensen's help in retrieving the disk, on which certain memories of hers are stored. Afterwards, Helle asks Jensen to retrieve the Memory Disk Reader so that the contents of the disk can be read.
Trivia[]
- The memory disk (and its reader) seen in Mankind Divided closely resemble the real-world "Zip Disk" (and Zip Drive). The Zip Disk was specialized high-capacity floppy disk first released in 1994 with a capacity of 100 MB though later versions expanded this to 250MB and, ultimately, 750MB.
