Overclocking is a minor mechanic in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which appears after the first visit to Václav Koller and the revelation that Jensen picked up some extra augs after Panchea. These experimental augmentations are untested, unsafe, and very powerful, but each one unlocked will add to Jensen's overclock rating. Koller will encourage Jensen to disable other augs to manage his overclock rating, as unlike computers, you can't just slather Adam in thermal paste.
Effects[]
In practical terms, each experimental aug will increase Jensen's overclock rating, which will produce a variety of glitches. These are primarily nuisances, rather than actual gameplay problems, which means that for all intents and purposes, overclocking is safe to do. The Neuroplasticity Calibrator will permanently remove overclock penalties for a given playthrough. The effects are as follows:
- 150%: Aug glitches occasionally happen, similar to the ones after the Prague bombing. Expect radar to reset occasionally.
- 300%: Visual artifacting starts to appear and some augs can malfunction, killing Jensen (explosive nano blades, anyone?).
- 350%: Periodic resets of your HUD and vision. After several, you get a call from Koller giving you one final advice to balance the load.
- 450%: Jensen will experience a system crash randomly. It will reboot after 15 seconds or so, and you get a special call with Koller, which reveals that Jensen just lost an aug. A random aug will get permanently disabled, dropping the overclock rating to 400% permanently.
