PoisonGas is a damage type in Deus Ex. PoisonGas damage is caused exclusive by game environment elements, and is not caused by any weapon or attack. When the player takes "PoisonGas" damage, the HUD will display a damage indicator icon that appears as a green skull.
"PoisonGas" is an internal name that only appears in game files. This damage type should not to be confused with the "Poison" and "PoisonEffect" damage types, which are separate damage types used for different purposes.

This damage type does not have any special properties and does not cause any special effects.
Resistance[]
- MJ12 Commandos, transgenic animals, and robots are fully immune to "PoisonGas" damage.
- For the player, resistance is provided by Hazmat Suits and the Environmental Resistance augmentation.

- Items
- Cigarettes – Causes self-inflicted damage when consumed.
- World objects
- Poison/biohazard barrels (barrels of the SC_Poison and SC_Biohazard types) – Poison barrels emit poison gas when damaged or leaking. In certain areas, poison barrels may be pre-set to be leaking even without having taken any damage.
- Environmental hazards
- Toxic liquid pools – Toxic liquid pools inflict "PoisonGas" damage through a damage trigger (DamageTrigger), typically placed inside a swimmable liquid zone.
- In the sewers below Hell's Kitchen, the water in the waste pool has a damage trigger that causes "PoisonGas" damage.
- In the VersaLife level 2 labs, the liquid-filled pipe-like chambers below the Universal Constructor have damage triggers that causes "PoisonGas" damage.
- Unique hazards
- At the MJ12 Helibase in Hong Kong, the player can release poisonous gas upon enemy troops. The poisonous gas is implemented by particle generators that spawn poison gas clouds.
