The rebreather is an item in Deus Ex that allows the player to breathe while underwater. Rebreathers are single-use items with a limited duration. Once used, the item is automatically removed from the inventory. Multiple rebreathers do not stack in the inventory.

When used, the rebreather resets the player's oxygen meter to 100% and will also actively maintain the oxygen meter at 100% for a certain duration until the rebreather's power supply is used up. This duration depends on the player's skill level in environmental training.

Given that the player's oxygen duration is 20 seconds by default, a single rebreather extends oxygen duration significantly, even at the untrained skill level. Rebreathers can serve as substitutes for the swimming skill and the Aqualung augmentation.
Rebreathers can be useful in areas with long underwater paths, such as Hong Kong and the Ocean Lab.
