Robin Johannes is a character mentioned in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. She has an apartment in the Dávný District of Prague, which contains emails reflecting her work in writing a book about the perception of augmented persons.

Biography[]

Robin Johannes was previously a professor in cultural anthropology. After retiring, she began working on a book about the change in perception of augmentation and the augmented and how that is influenced by public opinion. She believes that society is currently in the midst of a historical retelling of the facts about the augmented and their history in our society. Mindful that history is often written by the victors in a biased retelling of events, Johannes believes that her work, which she intends to be accurate, is an important work that must be completed.[1]

To write her book, Johannes sought to interview Václav Koller, who agreed to her request but noted that he prefers to see what can be done for the future, rather than to dwell on the past. Johannes also sought the cooperation of the local anti-aug politician Radko Perry for the printing of a short educational tract based on her upcoming book. Her request was met by outrage from Radko, who accused her work as being "filthy propaganda" designed to influence the minds of children.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The game files include three unused emails written for Johannes' computer, two of which describe the reaction of two publishers to her request to publish her book. One publisher, Picus Publishing, writes: "We do not believe the market is looking for such potentially controversial and divisive material in the current climate." Another publisher, PSPublishing, writes: "What are you? Some kind of Aug-lover? No a chance in hell that I will allow this seditious garbage to be printed or distributed or whatever through MY company."
