Speed Enhancement is a legs slot augmentation in Deus Ex. It is a nanotechnological augmentation that increases movement speed, increases jump height, and reduces falling damage.
This augmentation is installed from the augmentation canister that also includes Run Silent. Since there is only one legs slot, Speed Enhancement and Run Silent are mutually exclusive options.
Description[]
Ionic polymeric gel myofibrils are woven into the leg muscles, increasing the speed at which an agent can run and climb, the height they can jump, and reducing the damage they receive from falls.
- TECH ONE: Speed and jumping are increased slightly, while falling damage is reduced.
- TECH TWO: Speed and jumping are increased moderately, while falling damage is further reduced.
- TECH THREE: Speed and jumping are increased significantly, while falling damage is substantially reduced.
- TECH FOUR: An agent can run like the wind and leap from the tallest building.
Effects[]
Speed Enhancement is an active augmentation that consumes 40 units of bioelectric energy per minute.
When activated, this augmentation increases ground speed and jump height by 20% per tier[1] and reduces falling damage by 15 per tier.[2]
Tier | Speed and Jump Height | Falling Damage |
---|---|---|
Tech 1 | Increased by 20% | Reduced by 15 |
Tech 2 | Increased by 40% | Reduced by 30 |
Tech 3 | Increased by 60% | Reduced by 45 |
Tech 4 | Increased by 80% | Reduced by 60 |
Since this augmentation increases movement speed while crouching and JC is completely silent when crouched, this augmentation emulates some of the characteristics of Run Silent. However, movement speed when crouching is only 30% that of running.[3] Therefore, even with Speed Enhancement, movement speed when crouching will not be as fast as the base running speed.
Speed Enhancement also allows JC to more easily damage or kill enemies and destroy certain objects by jumping on top of them. This method is very unconventional and difficult to use, but can be handy if JC is out of ammo and has no other way of attacking an enemy or opening a crate.
Canister locations[]
- Warehouse District (2nd Mission) – In the basement control room (a room that includes a security terminal and a persona computer), in a locked safe under a desk with the computer.
- UNATCO Headquarters (4th Mission) – After returning from the airfield, the augmentation can be found on a cart inside the medical closet in the medical center of the UNATCO headquarters.
- VersaLife facility, Level 2 Lab (6th Mission) – Found in the Universal Constructor chamber in VersaLife's Level 2 Lab.
