Stephanie Maxwell is a former MJ12 scientist and member of X-51. She appears as a minor character in Deus Ex.

Biography

Like other members of X-51, Maxwell previously worked at Area 51 before defecting along with Gary Savage. During MJ12's attack on the X-51's facility at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Maxwell was captured by an MJ12 trooper, who orders her to prepare dynamite crates in order to open the security doors of the control center.

11th Mission - Vandenberg Air Force Base

Maxwell can be encountered outside the control center door along with the MJ12 trooper who had captured her. If the two are eavesdropped upon, the trooper can be heard ordering Maxwell to prepare the explosives in the manner ordered, but Maxwell will refuse, saying that she would rather die than betray Gary Savage.

Conversation

Maxwell can be spoken to if she has been seen speaking with the MJ12 trooper and is rescued afterwards. When spoken to, Maxwell will express surprised as to why the military bots obtained by X-51 have been deployed to defend against the base against MJ12. She will also inform JC Denton that except for the control room, the command center building has been overrun, and will provide JC with the security login in command building. In one of her random lines, Maxwell will state that their current situation is a consequence of not having a militia.

Due to what appears to be an oversight, it is not possible to speak with Maxwell if her conversation with the trooper was never triggered. Therefore, in order to speak to Maxwell, it is necessary to get close enough so that her conversation with the trooper triggers, but without being spotted by the trooper. If the trooper spots the player before the conversation has begun, he will attack and the conversation will not trigger—in this case, if the trooper is killed, it will not be possible to speak to Maxwell afterwards.

Notes

• At the end of Maxwell's conversation with the MJ12 trooper, there is a trigger that is intended to cause the MJ12 trooper to attack, which matches the dialogue. However, due to a bug or oversight, the trigger does not work as intended, and nothing will actually happen.
• The login that Maxwell gives (command / zebra42) is also given by Stacy Webber.
• Stephanie Maxwell shares the same surname as Vera Maxwell, who in 2072 is the head of the private security company Standard Security Corporation that appears in Deus Ex: Invisible War. However, no explicit connection between the two is mentioned in Invisible War.
