Sevchenko's nationality[]
The article states his nationalty to be Ukrainian, but there is e-mail correspondence with Jaron Namir that is found in one of computers in the Singapore facility, where the Tyrant is warned about Sevchenko's non-compliance, hacking and attempts to contact his colleagues (for which the scientist was executed). - A good question to ask is "where does this Ukrainian nationality even come from?" This wiki desperately needs sources for its statements.
- My uninformed guess is that the editors connected it with Ukrainian name Shevchenko (Шевченко) (vide national poet of Ukraine Taras Shevchenko), but there has been famous Russians with that name as well. The name Sevchenko (Севченко) on the other hand appears to be very rare, but is not limited to one state (Russian weightlifter, Belarusian physicist etc.)
- If there is a conflict of sources, Namir's remark could be attributed to cultural ignorance, but first we'd need a second source to conflict with. I'm for changing his nationality to Russian and explaining where it came from.--Nathan2000 (talk) 22:11, October 25, 2014 (UTC)
- The game itself is not consistent about his name. Some characters pronounce it as 'Sevchenko' (Севченко), with [s]. Others say 'Shevchenko' (Шевченко), beginning with the sound [ʃ]. Both names exist in the Russian-speaking world, but Севченко/Sevchenko is very rare (less than 70 people), while Шевченко/Shevchenko is much more common in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus (around 160 hundred thousand people), numbers given according to our largest Russian-speaking social network, Vkontakte. The official Russian release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution fixed this inconsistency, and throughout the game the name was spelled and pronounsed as Shevchenko.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.154.168.20 (talk • contribs) 21:32, December 7, 2014
