DX Weapon Mod Range (inventory icon)

Weapon Modification (Range) is a weapon modification in Deus Ex. It is used to increase the accurate range of compatible weapons.

Description[]

By lubricating the firing path with synthetic synovial fluid, the drag on fired projectiles is greatly reduced with a consequent increase in range.

Effects[]

Up to 5 range modifications can be installed on a particular weapon that is compatible.

The range modification only affects compatible hitscan weapons, which consist of the pistol, stealth pistol, assault rifle (when firing 7.62mm rounds), and sniper rifle. Each range modification increases accurate range by 10%, for a total of 50% with 5 range modifications installed.

Although the range modification can also be installed on certain projectile weapons, namely the mini-crossbow, flamethrower, plasma rifle, and GEP gun, the range modification has no actual effect when used on these weapons, even though the inventory interface will indicate a range increase. This is because the range modification only modifies the accurate range of the weapon itself, but in the case of projectile weapons, the accurate range of a fired projectile is instead governed by the projectile's own accurate range, which is separate from the weapon's accurate range. For a more detailed explanation, please see the article on range mechanics. Note that the assault rifle is a projectile weapon when firing its 20mm HE secondary ammunition.
