DX Weapon Mod Recoil (inventory icon)

Weapon Modification (Recoil) is a weapon modification in Deus Ex. It is used to reduce the recoil of compatible weapons.

Description[]

A stock cushioned with polycellular shock absorbing material will significantly reduce perceived recoil.

Gameplay[]

As with other attribute-upgrading modifications, up to 5 recoil modifications can be installed on a particular weapon.

Each recoil modification reduces base recoil by 10%, up to a total of 50% when 5 recoil modifications are installed. This percentage reduction is applied to the weapon's base recoil to derive a modified recoil value, which may be further reduced in a subtractive manner by the recoil reduction bonus from the corresponding weapon skill (0, -0.20, -0.50 and -1.00 from untrained to master) and the Targeting augmentation (-0.1, -0.2, -0.3, -0.4, for tech 1 to tech 4).

  • For example, given that the assault rifle has a base recoil of 0.50, installing 4 recoil mods will reduce the base recoil by 40%, for a modified recoil of 0.30.
    • Then, if the rifle skill is at "trained," the modified recoil of 0.30 is further reduced by 0.20, for a final recoil of 0.10. If tech 1 Targeting is activated, the recoil is further reduced by 0.1 to 0.

The recoil modification provides no benefit if the weapon already has 0 recoil due to weapon skill.

  • The pistol, assault rifle, sniper rifle, and plasma rifle all have base recoils in the range of 0.30 to 0.50. These weapons benefit from the recoil modification only when their weapon skill is at trained or lower. A weapon skill of advanced or higher will reduce recoil to zero, rendering recoil modifications useless at that point.
  • The assault shotgun has a base recoil of 0.70. Therefore, the assault shotgun can benefit from the recoil modification unless the rifle skill is at master level. Master level rifle skill will reduce even the assault shotgun's recoil to zero.
